“The main thing that has changed is my energy for life and the knowledge that what I may think was impossible at first isn't always!”

Date of Boot Camp Attended: June 2009 – Back To Basic Boot Camp
Occupation: Psychotherapist
Age: 31
Where you live: London

Your Story:

I booked onto the June New You Boot Camp as I was due to get married in the following January. I had put on a lot of weight since my father died and i resorted to comfort eating. My mother was also diagnosed with cancer so my husband and I decided to get married while she was still with us, I only mention this because i felt even more pressure to have the perfect wedding not just for myself but for mum too, and that meant getting back to how I used to look.

I wanted her to be proud of me and to be the most beautiful I could.  Not only did I achieve my goal but I surpassed it and ended up being fitter and more toned than I have ever been. My wedding day was perfect and everything I could have dreamed of.

Unfortunately my mother passed away a week after the wedding but I will always have the memories of how happy we all were that day and because of all the hard work I had put in I can look at my wedding photos and remember the day how it was rather than analyzing my body in each one, which is what i did when i was carrying the extra weight.

Your Experience at Boot Camp:

The New You Boot Camp regime was everything it said i would be tough, challenging and exhausting. It stretched me physically like i would not have thought possible but i felt totally supported by the staff and learnt loads about fitness and nutrition. What I got from the New You Boot Camp besides this was even more precious and this was a sense of myself back, having to push myself out of my physical comfort zone required me to look at my thinking and challenge my expectations of myself, with the firm encouragement of the staff I was able to achieve that which i previously thought impossible and found i was capable of so much more, so don't settle for less. All this combined with the beautiful welsh scenery, bootcamp friends and the constant laughs made it an unforgettable experience, one I would do again in the blink of an eye.

How has it changed your life?:

I now have so much more confidence and am enjoying wearing size 8-10 clothing, before i would just hide in black baggy clothes and burn any unflattering photographs. I know this obsession with the external seems so superficial but to me it just reflected what was going on internally and that was a disconnection with myself.  I now can cook a lot healthier and better and so my new husband is benefitting too and enjoy a range of exercises. The main thing that has changed is my energy for life and the knowledge that what I may think was impossible at first isn't always so if I adjust my thinking and most importantly... put the action in.

What would you say to anyone thinking of booking on?:

Just do it, all you have to loose is the weight that is making you miserable.  The weight will go and so much more than that will be revealed!

How much weight and inches did you lose at boot camp?

I weighed 11 st 2lbs at the beginning and weighed 10st 8lbs by the end. I lost 3 inches from my waist 1/2 inch from my arms and an inch from my thighs.

Have you gone on to lose any further weight or set any goals for your fitness: eg 10k, Marathons?

My goal for the wedding was to weigh 9 st 7 lbs which is the weight i was before, I actually weighed 9st at the wedding and still do today 7 months later. I still do my regular exercises of running and weights but also have joined a Power Pilates class and have just been on a yoga retreat. I have also attended some of the New You Boot Camp fitness days in Richmond Park. Now all the weight is gone I am now focussing on really getting strong and in top shape as I will want to start a family soon and need to be as fit as possible so i can get back in to shape more easily.
